Unique gifts for lovers of the native ponies of Britain

I love using natural materials in my work, and particularly painting on stones and pebbles. In a post a while back I shared some I'd done of ponies I'd done for a charitable cause here and I caught the pony painting bug after that! I'm interested in the different native breeds we have in this country so thought I'd do a small series.

I've just listed these in my Etsy shop I painted a Highland pony, a Fell pony, an Eriskay pony, a Dartmoor pony, an Exmoor pony and a Shetland pony.

Eriskay pony painted on a pebble

All my painted pebbles and rock art are one of a kind paintings. Not only is each pebble unique, their dimensional nature means I have to sketch a rough outline directly onto the piece and develop it from there. No two will ever be the same because of this.

My main interest in all my work is to try and capture some of the character of the animal. I've tried to go towards a more quirky representation, rather than a scientific style illustration.

Each piece is painted using artists acrylics and then finished with an artists satin varnish to protect it. These aren't made to be put outside because they would weather with time.

These pieces would make an ideal gift for anyone who loves ponies. I'm always happy to send gifts directly to the recipient if required and they would make great letterbox gifts.
